The Resident Physician Section (RPS) Career Pathways Series continues on Tuesday, June 2 at 8 p.m. ET with Clarence Lam, MD, MPH, FACPM.
Dr. Lam serves as the Program Director of the Preventive Medicine Residency Program at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. In addition to his academic role, he has served as a Maryland State Senator representing the 12th District since 2019.
Dr. Lam currently serves on the Senate Finance Committee and the Joint Committee on Ending Homelessness. He also chairs the Executive Nominations Committee and has previously chaired or served on several other committees, including the Joint Committee on Fair Practices and State Personnel Oversight, the Joint Audit and Evaluation Committee, and the Education, Health and Environmental Affairs Committee.
He was active in Maryland’s COVID-19 legislative response and also worked as interim director of Johns Hopkins Occupational Health Services, coordinating screening and treatment for healthcare workers.
Dr. Lam has held leadership roles in the Maryland Legislative Asian-American and Pacific-Islander Caucus and has been active in other caucuses, including the Maryland Legislative Jewish Caucus. He has served on statewide task forces on electric vehicle infrastructure, electronic smoking devices, school-based health centers, and rare diseases.
In the community, Dr. Lam has served on nonprofit boards including Healthy Howard, Unified Community Connections, and the Community Action Council of Howard County (managing food banks, Head Start programs, housing, and energy assistance).
Dr. Lam earned his MD from the University of Maryland and MPH from Johns Hopkins University. He completed his Preventive Medicine Residency training at Johns Hopkins, where he also served as Chief Resident.
